Tristar Power Pressure Cooker XL Explosion Burn Injury Lawsuits

In December of 2017, twelve individuals – all of whom suffered serious burn injuries while using their Power Pressure Cooker – have initiated a multiple-plaintiff lawsuit against the manufacturer Tristar Products. Such lawsuits seek to hold Tristar Products liable for medical expenses and other losses that each of the injured plaintiffs (or victims) incurred as a result of their burn injuries.

What are the Claims of the Plaintiffs Against Tristar?

Although each individual plaintiff suffered their burns and other injuries in separate incidents, there are similarities among each person’s situation. Each person was using a Power Pressure Cooker manufactured by Tristar Products at the time of their injuries. Tristar touts the safety features of the Power Pressure Cooker, one of which is a locking mechanism that is supposed to prevent the consumer from opening the lid to the cooker while there is still pressure inside. This same safety feature is also designed to prevent pressure from building up if the lid is not properly secured.

The plaintiffs involved have all alleged that Tristar marketed the Power Pressure Cooker knowing that the safety features it advertised so heavily did not work as advertised. The plaintiffs opened the lids to their pressure cookers after cooking with the pressure cookers as directed and observing indicia that there was no more pressure inside the cooker. In each case, however, residual pressure was present inside the cooker that was of sufficient quantity to cause the scalding-hot contents of the cooker to explode out of the cooker and cause burns to the plaintiffs’ chests, faces, and arms. In this lawsuit, the plaintiffs allege that Tristar Products knew that the “safety mechanism” did not work but that Tristar did not take any action to warn consumers and/or to fix the defective mechanism so that consumers would not be injured.

Not the Only Lawsuit Filed Against Tristar

Although this lawsuit represents the first lawsuit in which multiple plaintiffs have banded together to sue Tristar, there are other lawsuits pending against Tristar that have been filed by a number of victims similarly injured. In fact, Tristar faces nearly two dozen lawsuits and counting, all from people who are claiming that Tristar sold the Power Pressure Cooker knowing full well that the device was dangerous, that the safety features of the cooker did not function as advertised, and without adequately warning consumers about the risks they faced if they used the product.

Can You File a Lawsuit for Your Pressure Cooker Injuries?

If you or a loved one or family member were injured by an exploding pressure cooker or a pressure cooker whose lid could be opened even while the contents of the cooker were still under pressure, you may be entitled to compensation for any medical bills, surgical costs, prescription painkillers, lost income, scarring and disfigurement, and mental pain and anguish you may have suffered.
