National Law Firm Representation for Power Pressure Cooker Explosion Burn Injuries

The number of injury lawsuits being filed against the manufacturers of pressure cookers is rising every day as more and more consumers are finding that their pressure cookers are not as safe and well-designed as they may have believed. Injuries such as second- and third-degree burns, scarring and disfigurement, and amputations or loss of limbs are just some of the serious repercussions that follow a pressure cooker failure.

In one instance, in August of 2018, a woman was burned by a Cuisinart Inc. pressure cooker even after having used the pressure cooker safely for several months. The woman, Shelly Wicklund, purchased the Cuisinart GPC-600 pressure cooker in December of 2015 and used it on multiple occasions over the next several months. The advertisements for the pressure cooker claimed that the cooker’s “double lid-locking mechanism” would prevent the lid from being opened while the cooker contained any amount of pressure. Despite this, in March of 2016, Ms. Wicklund was able to open the lid on the cooker despite the cooker giving every appearance that it did not contain any pressure. When Ms. Wicklund removed the lid, pressure inside the cooker caused the contents to erupt forth from the cooker and spill all over her chest, face, and arms.

Three other victims recently joined together in a class action lawsuit against Tristar Products, manufacturer of the Power Pressure Cooker XL. Like the Cuisinart GPC-600, the Power Pressure Cooker XL is advertised as having a safety feature that makes it impossible for the lid of the cooker to be opened and removed while the pressure cooker’s interior compartment contains any amount of pressure. In each of these cases, however, the injury victims were able to rotate and open the lid to their Power Pressure Cooker XL devices even though there was still a dangerous amount of pressure inside. The unsuspecting victims were greeted with hot food and liquids being thrown in their faces from the pressure that remained inside the cooker.

In all of these lawsuits, the injured parties allege that the manufacturers of these pressure cookers marketed and sold a defective and unsafe product and did not provide enough warnings to consumers about how to handle the cookers safely during and after cooking. Each injured party is seeking varying amounts of monetary damages from the manufacturers of these pressure cookers in order to help pay for their medical and other expenses.
